Pet Peeves: - - -

Happy Thoughts: Holiday hoopla with a lot of good folks made the season joyful and cozy.

Looking forward to: A brand new year. This will be the last "This Week in The Magick Muse" post. I have some different plans for my blog.

Thank you for stopping by.

The Artist's Way Wrap Up

I first heard of "The Artist's Way" by Julia Cameron at a poetry reading at Malaprop's in Asheville, NC.

It was August, 2008.

I was in Asheville for a week pretending I lived there.
I wanted to make sure my big move to the mountains
was the right move.

It was.

I moved to Asheville May 1, 2009.

But I never got around to checking out that book.

Until last year at this time.

A fellow flyer mentioned getting an online book club going for "The Artist's Way". There are 12 chapters in the book.
We would take a year and do a chapter a month.

BRILLIANT!

I went to Mr. K's - Asheville's amazing used bookstore and found a hardback copy with no cover. I painted it and made it my own.

The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron
This book has truly enriched my life.

The main two components to Julia's artist way formula are the morning pages and the artist dates

Morning Pages
From Julia Cameron...
"Morning Pages are three pages of longhand, stream of consciousness writing, done first thing in the morning. *There is no wrong way to do Morning Pages*–they are not high art. They are not even “writing.” They are about anything and everything that crosses your mind– and they are for your eyes only. Morning Pages provoke, clarify, comfort, cajole, prioritize and synchronize the day at hand. Do not over-think Morning Pages: just put three pages of anything on the page…and then do three more pages tomorrow."
The morning pages.

I feel so much more alive since I started doing morning pages.
I am able to think much more clearly in the mornings.
I feel more balanced, more organized, more together.
Past feelings and emotions come to the surface
and I deal with them.
I have more vivid dreams
and I remember them more clearly.

I have been practicing the morning pages all year and I have a feeling this is a habit that may never go away.

Seriously, how did I live my life without them?

Artist Dates
The 2nd key ingredient in being successful
with The Artist's Way are Artist Dates

What is an artist date

Well, basically anything you want to do
that you don't normally do...and you do it alone.
All alone. Singular. By yourself. If it sounds fun...go do it.

Now...I've been dating myself for years.
I take myself out on somewhat of a regular basis.

At first I felt my artist dates needed to be extra artsy.
Woolworth Walk, Asheville, NC
Over the year, I discovered I've always been doing artist dates.
I love to take myself to dinner on a
Friday night after the work week.
I love journaling in pubs.
I love doing stuff on my own.

Now, I give it a name.

Life is meant to be an artist date.
~Julia Cameron

Both of these activities are integrated in who I am.
They are part of my routine, part of my life.

And let me tell you this is no regular book,
or even a regular self-help book,
this book is a movement!

This book has inspired me deeply and has
had a profound impact on
my creativity, dreams and my living my life to the fullest.

I am living The Artist Way life.

Thank you Julia Cameron for your brilliance!

Have you experienced "The Artist's Way"?
Tell me about it.

Reading: Been reading some comics and "Women Who Run With the Wolves" by Clarissa Pinkola Estes

Listening to: Still obsessing over Chet Faker's sexy sounds.

Watching: Smallville

Thinking about: Finding my tribe.

Learning: Let go and go with the flow.

Doing: All that holiday hoopla.

Pet Peeves: When you take the time out of your life to connect and send out invitations - and the people don't even take the time to respond yes or no to let you know they are coming. Ignoring is just rude.

Happy Thoughts: My friends, rum cake, staying up practically all night, rain, bourbon, coffee, knitting, lazy days....

Best Quote: "Doing the best at this moment puts you in the best place for the next moment." ~Oprah Winfrey

Looking forward to: Going to South Carolina with Chris to spend the Holidays with his lovely family.

Yule

Yule Wreath 2009
Tomorrow is the Winter Solstice, Yule.
It is the longest night of the year.
A few times I've stayed up the entire night to
greet the Sun the next day - honoring the transition -
knowing soon the days will be longer again.

Most of us become more reflective at this time of year -
we start thinking,
"With a new year coming up,
there can be a new beginning."

It's almost like a do over.

I always ask,
"Am I being true to my authentic being?
What would my highest self say?"

I hope that you dare to live your life's calling.

I hope that you are true to yourself.

Apollo, ancient god of the Sun now hear my call,
Bring illumination whether rain or snowflakes fall.
On this the darkest and longest of winter's bleak nights,
I celebrate the return of the Sun's strength and light.
May my own truth shine free for all to see,
And as I will it, then so must it be.

2013 Year in Review - Flying Sisters Blog Circle

Wow.
What a year.
I chose the word Transformation for 2013.

How appropriate.

My main two goals this year were to:
1 - Get my life coach certification.
2 - Move to a bigger home.

Done.
And done.

Whew.

It's been wonderful nesting in the new place.
I absolutely love our new home.
We have SPACE.
It's glorious.

I've learned a few valuable lessons about me this year -

1 - Don't take on too many projects at once.
I have so many passions,
I get carried away wanting to do everything.
However, there just isn't enough time for me to do
every single thing that I'm passionate about.
I need to choose one project at a time.
I need to read one book at a time.
One thing at a time.
No more silly art classes - they are such time wasters!

2 - I need deadlines.
If I don't have a deadline, it's possible it's still on my to do list.
I've noticed if I have a scheduled class or
have to check in with someone,
I'm totally on the ball.

3 - My body needs the gym.
I need exercise.
It has to be part of my life.
A habit. Like brushing my teeth,
I've got to do it.
With trying to get my own business going,
I sometimes neglect the gym.
I've learned that my body is more important than posting more items on Etsy.
My body is a priority.

For 2014, I'm going to keep it simple.
Simplify is my word for 2014.
One project at a time.
Honor deadlines.
Honor my mind and my body.

And the huge focus - well - it's gonna all be about life coaching.
I have so many ideas, I just have to implement them!

I'm about to take my best to a new level.

Bring it on 2014.

American Horror Story Coven Candles

from Lindsey Weber and Linsey Fields?

O.M.G.

Click here to check them out.

I'd absolutely love for them to create an actual deck.
How utterly perfect would that be?

This is my absolute favorite show right now.
I enjoyed the first season.
The second season was uber crazy bizarre.

Coven, for me, is the best season yet.

I mean...WITCHES.

So, I'm a bit obsessed.

I saw the tarot card art and was in happy awe.
I just had to print them out and
put them on 7 day candles.

They look amazing.

When the candles burn down,
I may just have to do it again.

I want them around all the time.

Reading: Just finished "Black Hole" by Charles Burn. Hmm - not sure what to say. It was strange - I wanted more information. It's basically about teenagers having sex and turning into mutants - but not cool mutants - gross outcast mutants. It's for the graphic novel book club tomorrow. Curious what the others will say about the book.

Listening to: Chet Faker. Chet Faker. Chet Faker.

OMG Chet Faker.
I'm in love with his voice, his songs, ohhhh they are SO SEXY.
Just listen...makes me wanna make sweet sweet love...

Watching: With most shows taking holiday break, I have dived back into Smallville. Season 6. I love Clark on red kryptonite.

Thinking about: community

Learning: to slow down

Doing: Chris and I did some major organizing/cleaning in the living room after decorating the Yule tree. Our home is completely unpacked and I love it. It's so cozy and it's so us.

Pet Peeves: - - -

Happy Thoughts: Not working - appreciating a few days off for the Holiday.

Best Quote: "To keep the body in good health is a duty - otherwise we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear." ~Buddha

Looking forward to: Yule Love It! Party and spending the Holidays in SC with Chris's family. Good times.

Reading: Finishing "The Artist's Way" by Julia Cameron. I can't believe it's already the last chapter - this year has flown by. I'm finishing the book - but it's definitely one that will stick with me forever.

Listening to: Pearl Jam, Peeping Tom, Zola Jesus

Watching: The regular TV load - my favorite show right now is still "American Horror Story - Coven". Seriously, wow. They even threw in that awesome song "Season of the Witch" last week. Could it get more perfect?

Thinking about: The importance of loved ones.

Learning: Still working on simplifying. I have so many passions, it's difficult for me to just choose one or two things. I'm still weeding through all my projects and life to allow space for what I really desire to manifest.

Doing: Simplifying.

Pet Peeves: Nothing comes to mind this week.

Happy Thoughts: Weekends. Holidays. Hugs.

Oracle of the Week~Faery~Unity

Unity

Words by Jessica Macbeth

Union. Mystical experience. Spiritual home.

"Remember the mystical concept that we are all one,
unified in a holistic universe."

**************

My grandma died peacefully in her sleep this past week.
I've been thinking about her a lot.
I've been thinking that life happens.
I've been thinking that death happens.

I pulled this card and at first was like, "What?"

But I see.

One thing death does is bring the living together.

Unity.

We all come together as one.

We all come together with the same common goal.

We all come together to pay honor to
our loved one that has left.

It is a true pleasure journeying back to my hometown,
Metropolis, Illinois and visiting with family and friends
I haven't seen for so long.
